The Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference offers opportunities at most events for non-scholastic participants to also have opportunities to race, and most of our intro clinics are open to new riders, students and non-students alike!
Before diving into the opportunities for non-students - if you're a student and your school doesn't have a team, you likely can still race in the scholastic fields! It's easy (and free your first year) to create a team, and you may also be able to race as an unattached club rider.
If none of those options sound feasible, please contact our conference staff in case there are additional opportunities!
Each of our seasons (Road, Mountain, Cyclocross) operates differently, and the opportunities for non-scholastic riders to participate are different in each discipline. Some events may have slightly different policies and opportunities, but the most common options are listed below for each season.
Most ECCC road races and criteriums offer non-collegiate fields. If we expect large field sizes, we will have separate collegiate and non-scholastic fields, but we may combine fields if we don't expect enough participants. (If you're the only non-scholastic woman in the 1/2/3 race, I don't think you'd want to race alone!)
Some ECCC road race weekends may have a time trial (individual or team). Depending on the event, there may be a non-scholastic option for individuals or teams.
Almost every ECCC road intro clinic and beginner's race welcomes non-scholastic participants, who typically are combined with intro students.
Almost every ECCC mountain race weekend has opportunities for non-scholastic participants!
For cross-country (XC) and short-track cross country (STXC) races, non-scholastic riders typically start with the equivalent collegiate category, racing alongside students. Results will be separated.
For enduro and downhill races, non-scholastic participants will be timed separately from students.
Dual slalom events may combine non-scholastic riders with the students depending on the number of participants. The decision is typically made after qualifying rounds have completed, allowing the number of competitors to be determined.
The majority of the ECCC cyclocross calendar designates collegiate fields at otherwise non-collegiate events. Non-scholastic participants typically have many opportunities to race at the same events as the collegiate fields. Non-scholastic participants often are racing at the same time as collegiate fields.
We love seeing alumni stay in the ECCC community. We welcome all alumni back as non-collegiate participants, and also encourage alumni to consider giving back to the next generation of students, by continuing to provide guidance to your former team, helping out at races (potentially as a intro coach), sponsoring a team (either directly or via your employer), or help out with the ECCC, either as a general volunteer or as a volunteer staff member!
